(Rankin Inlet, Nunavut — October 22, 2025) Today, Nunavut Tunngavik membership announced a major step in implementing Angirratsaliulauqta with the establishment of Igluvut Corporation.
Angirratsaliulauqta, the first ever Nunavut Inuit Housing Action Plan, made by Inuit, for Inuit, prioritizes homes for Elders, women and children fleeing violence, and youth in crisis, while also addressing the urgent need for affordable housing for working Inuit seeking stable housing options not tied to employment or public housing.
“Our vision is to transform housing in Nunavut for Inuit,” said NTI President Jeremy Tunraluk. “It is incredibly exciting to see our vision for Inuit housing in Nunavut move into implementation through the establishment of Igluvut, and the Inuit Housing Fund.”
Igluvut Corporation is an Inuit led not-for-profit housing organization dedicated to transforming housing for Nunavut Inuit. Governed by a Board made up of two representatives from NTI, and one from each of the Regional Inuit Associations (RIAs), Igluvut Corporation will focus on delivering affordable rental options, and supporting home renovation and ownership programs for Nunavut Inuit.
The Inuit Housing Fund, established in August 2025 with an initial $135 million, will support Igluvut’s operations and ensure affordable rental rates. The Fund includes $63 million from the repayment of a Nunavut Agreement Negotiation Loan, along with $72 million from Budget 2022 housing funding dedicated to supportive housing.
“This is an important milestone in building the systems, partnerships, and accountability needed to ensure housing in Nunavut reflects Inuit priorities and values,” said NTI Vice President Paul Irngaut. “This is Inuit self-determination in action, creating affordable housing solutions that meet Inuit needs, and strengthens our communities.”
NTI’s Inungnik Makipalliatittiniq 2025-2029 priorities emphasizes that Inuit must be leaders and full participants in shaping our future. When it comes to housing, this means designing and developing communities to reflect Inuit culture, values, and way of life.
Inungnik Makipalliatittiniq envisions “Thriving Inuit Communities and Skilled Inuit Ready to Work,” and with the creation of Igluvut and the Inuit Housing Fund, NTI and the RIAs are moving forward to increase Inuit employment, training, and apprenticeship opportunities in the housing sector.
